The role of Assistant Co-ordinator will support the CS Local Co-ordinator with the delivery plan for 2018/19.

Civil Service Local is a key route to making A Brilliant Civil Service a reality at local level and improving the effectiveness of the Civil Service.

Building and maintaining good relationships across the Civil Service is critical and this role offers the chance to be innovate, develop ideas and implement new ways of working that will help shape the modern civil service.  

Collaboration to bring people on-board to support CS Local in the region and sourcing volunteers to lead our activities are key requirements of the role.

It also offers the chance to enhance project management and networking skills across departments, to learn more about the delivery of public services and contribute to the successful delivery of products and approaches, which will benefit civil servants.

There is a role in each of North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, the Midlands and the South West and this will include extensive travel across the region in which the role is based and, on occasions, different parts of the UK. The role would suit a candidate within a HEO post but all candidates are welcome to apply.

Reporting to the Local Co-ordinator, the Assistant Coordinator will:

Be responsible for the development of one or more specific projects or themes. This will require the engagement of stakeholders and project teams from across the Civil Service and other public sector bodies as appropriate, and interaction with customers and stakeholders from a range of organisations across the region or the country.

Specific elements include:

  • Project scoping, development and planning
  • Engaging stakeholders and customers and raising the CS Local profile
  • Monitoring, reviewing and completing performance reports and updates as required 

Develop and maintain communication networks including:

  • Developing contacts at the appropriate level where these do not currently exist.
  • Building new and existing relationships to facilitate the delivery and implementation of projects across the area and the country.
  • Ensuring databases are up to date, accurate and fit for purpose.

Provide support to the Local Co-ordinator including:

  • Taking the lead on providing a consistent approach to the planning and delivery of projects and events
  • Representing the team at specific events/projects as agreed with the Co-ordinator
  • Evaluating and monitoring the impact of all CS Local activity to support the development of CS Local and underpin individual projects

Terms and Conditions

Cabinet Office Grades

Cabinet Office has merged grades. Band A equates to G6/7, Band B2 equates to HEO/SEO, Band B1 equates to EO, and Band C equates to AA/AO. Staff joining on promotion terms will have their salary calculated based on their substantive grade.

Terms of Appointment

Successful applicants who permanently transfer across to the Cabinet Office will move onto the departments terms and conditions, including salary.

For posts advertised on loan, where existing salaries exceed Cabinet Office pay scales it may be possible to remain on the parent department’s pay and appraisal system.

Applicants accepting a post on promotion will transfer on to Cabinet Office’s modernised terms and conditions. Staff on pre-modernised terms accepting a post on level transfer will attract Cabinet Office’s pre-modernised terms.

Location

This post can be based in Victoria Square House, Birmingham, 2 Rivergate, Bristol, Quarry House, Leeds or Benton Park View, Newcastle upon Tyne. You will be considered mobile. This means that you may compulsorily be posted to other civil service departments within the UK.

Working Hours

Full time working week of 42 hours per week, including lunch breaks. Part-time working hours will need to be agreed with the hiring manager.

Allowances

Allowances (except London Weighting) will not be carried forward unless applicable to the role. Excess costs will only be payable where there is a proven business case.

Annual Leave & Occupational Sick Pay

Annual leave allowance of 25 days rising to 30 days after five years’ service with 8 days’ bank and public holidays and the Queen’s Birthday privilege holiday.

Occupational Sick Pay - staff successful on promotion will be entitled to a maximum 5 months full pay and five months half pay up to a maximum of 10 month’s sick pay in a rolling 4 year period. Please note that staff successful on promotion who were appointed to the Civil Service on modernised terms will continue to earn entitlement to sick pay up to the maximum 5 months' full pay and five months' half by the fifth year of service.

National Insurance Information

The National Insurance numbers of successful applicants will be shared with the Ministry of Defence to aid the tracking of Armed Forces Reservist levels across government.

Childcare Vouchers

Please note if you move across the Civil Service on or after 6 April 2018 it may have implications on your ability to carry on claiming childcare vouchers. For Cabinet Office if you move on or after 1 March you may be affected.
